Allyn Days Festival 2003 – The Legend Lives On

Every summer for the past 21 years, the Allyn Community Association has hosted its own fabulous summer party, dubbed the Allyn Days Festival and Salmon Bake and traditionally held on the third weekend in July at the Allyn Waterfront Park.

You can eat salmon at a variety of community events throughout the year or even in your own back yard, but it is well known that the Allyn Community Association serves up a salmon dinner with a gusto that cannot be surpassed. This can be said with conviction because once again, they outdid themselves this past July.

Starting at noon, volunteers from the ACA served over 900 mouth-watering salmon dinners to their friends, families, neighbors and visitors. The food line extended into the parking lot all day long as people waited patiently and the savory aroma of grilled salmon filled the air, tantalizing everyone's taste buds.

"A trip through the food line netted each diner a generous wedge of the legendary salmon accompanied by a serving of fresh coleslaw, corn on the cob, homemade Indian fry bread with jam, baked beans, ice cold lemonade and a blueberry dessert".

While salmon remains the focal point of this annual community celebration, there's always much more to see and do throughout the day.

The ever popular and (especially for parents) adorable Children's Pet Parade kicked off the day’s festivities, followed by a schedule of lively entertainment under the gazebo, an assortment of vendors booths packed with interesting goods, a chalk art show on the Port of Allyn wall and various displays by community organizations. Salmon habitat and restoration projects underway were proudly showcased by members of the Allyn Salmon Enhancement Group, a local grass roots organization dedicated to reestablishing and preserving salmon runs in area streams. The day culminated with a town dance under the gazebo as Mt. Rainier loomed majestically in the distance.

Public moorage is always available at the Allyn dock, just a short stroll from the waterfront park, site of the annual festival. Boaters have the opportunity to visit this small, friendly waterfront community from all over Puget Sound via the saltwater passages that surround the area.

Since its establishment in 1986, the Allyn Community Association has continued to grow as its members take on numerous projects to enhance their community pride.

Salmon enhancement and town beautification are high on their current list.
